Jaiswal’s maiden ton marks series win for India U19

Opening for his side, the teenager steered India U19 to a comfortable victory.

Yashasvi Jaiswal dug into Sri Lankan bowlers to score his maiden century, in only his third Youth One Day International, as India U-19 won their bilateral series 3-2 in Moratuwa on Friday.

The southpaw, who impressed everyone in the opening season of T20 Mumbai for North Mumbai Panthers, was given his India cap in the first game of the series. He was brought back in the team for the decider and with an unbeaten 114, Jaiswal has guided his team to an eight-wicket victory at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium.

Chasing a total of 212, Jaiswal was promoted to open the innings. He stitched three fifty-plus stands, first with Devdutt Padikkal for 71 runs, then added 72 with Pawan Shah and finally an unbeaten 71 with captain Aryan Juyal.

After it took him 68 deliveries to reach his half-century, Jaiswal accelerated and took 20 balls fewer to score the next fifty runs.

He smashed eight fours and three maximums in his 128-ball stay at the crease. With victory in sight, the 17-year-old capped off the win with a six.
