Put into bat first in the Group B Super League match, Vidarbha were on the backfoot immediately after in-form Deshpande's early strikes that left them at 28/2 in the fifth over. The Mumbai bowlers proved to be incisive over the day with Shams Mulani conceding just 22 runs and Shardul Thakur giving away just 21 runs in their quota of four overs with the duo taking three wickets between them.

Deshpande, an ARCS Andheri pacer from the inaugural season of T20 Mumbai, was the most expensive bowler for Mumbai but his three wickets proved vital, his final dismissal accounting for the end of Umesh Yadav's cameo that lifted his side from a reeling 95/6. Vidharbha, in the end, managed to post just 137/8.

Mumbai got off to a breezy start with Jay Bista leading the attack. The SoBo Supersonics batsman put on 51 runs for the second wicket with captain Shreyas Iyer and then witnessed Suryakumar Yadav smash 25 runs in just 10 balls with the help of a pair of sixes and fours.

Bista ended the chase with two sixes of his own, ending unbeaten on 73 off just 51 deliveries, with Mumbai chasing the target in the 16th over.
