Pravin Tambe to become first Indian to play in Caribbean Premier League

The experienced leggie will fly to the Caribbean in August to represent Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2020

Pravin Tambe is set to become the first Indian to ply his trade in the Caribbean Premier League after Trinbago Knight Riders, led by Kieron Pollard, bolstered their bowling lineup by signing the veteran leg-spinner in the players’ draft.

The 48-year-old Pravin Tambe will share the dressing room in the Caribbean with the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and Colin Munro among others.

A title-winning leggie in T20 Mumbai, Pravin Tambe, brings with him the experience of playing 61 T20s and bagging 67 wickets at a healthy economy of just 7.04.

He has played for NaMo Bandra Blasters and North Mumbai Panthers in the two seasons T20 Mumbai.

The former Mumbai cricketer joined Rajasthan Royals in 2013, becoming the oldest debutant in the Indian Premier League.

He went on to represent the now-defunct Gujarat Lions and also featured in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team before bagging a contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auctions.

Trinbago Knight Riders missed the finals berth in the last season of CPL after bowing out in the closely-fought second Qualifier.

The CPL team, co-owned by Shahrukh Khan, will aim to get their hands on the trophy this year with their experienced unit that also includes Mumbaikar Pravin Tambe.

The tournament is set to begin on August 18 and will be run behind closed doors until it ends on September 10.

“I will also take all necessary precautions and follow protocols before going there,” Pravin Tambe told the Indian Express earlier.

“I am working on my physical fitness at home and so yes definitely looking forward to this edition,” he added.
