Prithvi Shaw puts on his A-game in comeback match

The 20-year-old hammered 150 in just 100 balls against the New Zealand XI.

Stroking his first ball for a boundary, Prithvi Shaw went on to blaze a List A career-best 150 in just 100 balls against New Zealand XI at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Sunday that laid the foundation for India A's win in the second warm-up game.

In his first innings since he returned from the injury he sustained in the Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka earlier this month, the 20-year-old smashed 22 fours and 2 sixes during his knock that came at a strike rate of 150.

India A had elected to bat first, and as a result of Prithvi Shaw's century, the visitors scored a mammoth 372 all out in 49.2 overs.

Opening the innings, Prithvi Shaw partnered Mayank Agarwal to put on 89 runs in just 67 balls with the latter departing for 32 (36b). He then teamed up with captain Shubman Gill to forge a 69-run stand in just 43 balls before the skipper made his exit for a 22-ball 24.

That brought fellow Mumbai player Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a fifty in the opening game of India A's tour of New Zealand, to the crease with the two putting on a 44-ball 51. Suryakumar Yadav too put on quick runs, his 26 taking just 20 deliveries.

Amidst these stands, Prithvi Shaw, who led North Mumbai Panthers to the T20 Mumbai league title last year, continued to pile on his runs. His fifty took just 28 balls and his century 64 and was dismissed the delivery after he reached his 150 at the start of the 35th over with the score at 264/5.

Such was his form that he not only sent his first ball to the fence, he then plundered 20 runs in only the second over after smacking Henry Shipley for three successive boundaries in it.

India A eventually went on to win the match by 12 runs as New Zealand XI cut it close in the high-scoring affair. They are scheduled to play the next match on Wednesday, in the tour's first unofficial ODI against New Zealand A.
