The team represents the suburbs that fall under the Mumbai South Central constituency like Anushakti Nagar, Chembur, Dharavi, Sion Koliwada, Wadala, Shivaji Park and Mahim.

Key Players

Shivaji Park Lions retained Mumbai’s Ranji crisis man Siddhesh Lad as well as last season’s man of the tournament Shivam Dube. They astutely used their Right to Match (RTM) options to re-acquire the services of all-rounder Raunaq Sharma and Hardik Tamore.

“These four players have been very consistent wherever they’ve played in the past year. So we are confident that they will be even better and stronger this time around when Season 2 starts,” said Harsh Jain, co-owner of the franchise.

SPL also managed to buy last season’s leading wicket-taker for North Mumbai Panthers, Shivam Malhotra, which also roping in bowlers Tanush Kotian and Vijay Gohil.

“Malhotra is a good pacer and Vijay Gohil is brilliant with his slow left-arm. Last season I felt we were lacking a few bowlers but this year we’ve covered that up and now we have a very balanced team. I think we should get the cup home this year,” asserted Jain.

“We were brainstorming for a few adjectives to describe the areas our team represented and the word lion caught on because that’s how we and our team are,” explained the franchise owner. “It’s all about being fierce and bold like the lion; and that’s exactly what our team and our style of cricket stands for.”

Astutely retaining the core of their successful team from the first Season, the Shivaji Park Lions did well at the 2019 T20 Mumbai auction to poach some star performers off the rival teams. With a well rounded and balanced side, the runners-up could be on their way to going one better when Season 2 of T20 Mumbai commences on 14th May.
