A place in the finals at stake as SuperSonics take on the Tigers

SoBo SuperSonics aim to better last season’s semis defeat while Aakash Tigers target finals spot in their debut season.

After the cliched a first ever finals appearance, the action turns to Saturday where the SoBo SueprSonics face the Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs. Both teams come into this game on a high, after empathic victories in their final league games. So, expect a closely contested game in the second semi-final of Season 2.

Here in a more detailed look at how the teams have been shaping up so far.

SoBo SuperSonics

Under the leadership of 23-year-old Jay Bista, the SoBo SuperSonics have looked solid right from the beginning. Their batting unit seems well rounded with Parag Khanapurkar, Yogesh Takawale and Bista scoring the bulk of the runs, while all-rounders Rohan Raje and Khizer Dafedar have given them enough ammunition in the death overs. Heading into the semi-final, their only cause for concern would be fellow opener Hersh Tank who in yet to bring his best to the competition.

On the bowling front, their spin department has been their key to success thus far, with retained star Dhrumil Matkar claiming the man-of-the-match award in the last game. Khanapurkar has also chipped in well with ball in hand with his loopy leg-spin. The pacers Badre Alam and Deepak Shetty have also had good campaigns; but tend to be expensive in crunch situations. With the pressure of the semi-final on them, they need to hold their nerve and perform well if the SuperSonics are going to make their first final.

Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs

The Tigers were struggling to find some consistency in their top-order, but that concern could be put to bed now with the emergence of Bhavin Thakkar. The opener smashed a match-winning fifty against the Shivaji Park Lions to propel his team to the semis. Apart from that, the Tigers have relied on all-rounders Arjun Tendulkar and Shams Mulani to score the bulk of the runs for them. Their middle-order still looks frail and the likes of Siddharth Akre and Doraiswamy Subramanian would be aiming to get some more runs under their belt.

Bowling has been the strong suit for the franchise thanks to two seasoned domestic stars in Dhawal Kulkarni and Shams Mulani. Their other bowlers Salman Khan, Nehal Katakdhond and Arjun Tendulkar. The latter has been looking sharp in particular, having picked up four wickets in his last two games. Their bowlers have dominated the powerplay overs, but proved expensive at the slog overs in a few games. Heading into Saturday, they would hope for a more clinical performance throughout the innings.

Kya Bolta Hai?

SoBo SuperSonics have the more balanced side heading into this contest; and have had a more successful season until now. Nevertheless, the Aakash Tigers have plenty of experienced stars in their ranks who could come in handy in the pressure situation of a semi-final. Expect a tight game when the SuperSonics tackle the Tigers.
