Know Your Teams – Find out who you should support

With the inaugural T20 Mumbai season approaching, know more about the teams taking part.

With the exciting player auctions for T20 Mumbai’s inaugural season behind us now, the franchise owners have finally revealed the names of their respective teams that will represent various locales of this cricket-loving city of Mumbai.

With an Icon Player and some explosive talent from the gullies and by-lanes of Mumbai in each of the six teams, everyone is waiting with bated breaths to witness who would be crowned as the first ever #CricketChaRaja. For now, here’s some information about all the teams, so you can pick the team you would like to put your support behind.

North Mumbai Panthers

Comprising of the locales of Borivali, Dahisar, Magathane, Kandivali East, Charkop and Malad West, the North Mumbai Panthers boast of one of the strongest batting pairs on paper in the league – Icon Player, Ajinkya Rahane and explosive young talent, Prithvi Shaw.

“People are going to support the local heroes - I think that is what I am going to build,” said Rajdeep Gupta, the owner of the team. “Local heroes are like icon players for the people and I think that is exactly what we are going to create out of this tournament.”

NaMo Bandra Blasters

With Vile Parle, Chandivali, Kurla, Kalina, Bandra East and Bandra West under it’s constituency, the franchise from Mumbai North Central will be the NaMo Bandra Blasters! With the likes of Shreyas Iyer (Icon Player) and Pravin Tambe on their roster, fans of this team can expect some youthful energy coupled with some calm experience.

“The vision is to create a good pool of cricketers, who can definitely get into the Indian team someday,” said team co-owner Niranjan Bhutra. “Nurturing good talent from the grassroot level is the vision.”

Mumbai North East Triumph Knights

If you are a resident of Mulund, Vikhroli, Bhandup West, Ghatkopar West, Ghatkopar East or Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, then the North East Triumph Knights is the team to back! With good quality in both batting and bowling, they have the likes of Suryakumar Yadav (Icon Player) and Dhawal Kulkarni on their roster.

“Every team has a vision, and the vision is to win. It is no different for us. We want to give more youngsters the opportunity to prove their talent on the big stage,” asserted mentor of the team, Lalchand Rajput.

ARCS Andheri

Representing Mumbai North West comprising of Jogeshwari East, Dindoshi, Goregaon, Versova, Andheri West and Andheri East, the Arcs Andheri has the Hitman – Rohit Sharma on board as their Icon Player. With other interesting names like Iqbal Abdulla and Siddharth Chitnis, they surely look like a strong unit.

“I think the way we were looking at it was that this is cricket which is going to resonate with being a Mumbaikar, and we just wanted to participate in that,” said co-owner Quaiser Parvez.

SoBo SuperSonics

If you reside in the locales of Worli, Sewri, Byculla, Malabar Hill, Mumbadevi or Colaba, then you will probably be supporting the SoBo Supersonics. With experienced head Abhishek Nayar as the Icon Player, and other talented names like Rohan Raje and Jay Bista, the team from Mumbai South looks impressive.

“Mumbai has given so much to Indian cricket,” observed team co-owner Gurmeet Singh. “I am glad that I am part of this movement where we are giving a lot of young players to hope to fulfil their dreams.”

Shivaji Park Lions

Anushakti Nagar, Chembur, Dharavi, Sion Koliwada, Wadala and Mahim are the locales present in Mumbai South Central, and the Shivaji Park Lions will be the team to represent them. With Siddhesh Lad headlining the side as the Icon Player, the team also has Indian Premier League sensation, Paul Valthaty in the ranks.

“Everyone wants to be a winner. That is a positive thing. But our team is going to win the tournament, and nobody can stop me - not even God! He has no option,” reckoned Sharad Kapoor, the co-owner of the team.
