When he pulled a short one from Sunil Narine over deep midwicket in the 11th over, Rohit Sharma surpassed the tally of hitting the most number of sixes in T20 Internationals.

Opening the innings in the second T20I against West Indies at Lauderhill in Florida on Sunday, Sharma walked out to the crease with an intent that hit the ground running. Facing the first delivery bowled by Oshane Thomas, he nonchalantly whipped it to fine leg for a four. The record was inevitable.

His first six came in the sixth over, when he flicked a leg-stump full toss from Keemo Paul over deep midwicket. Here he was level with Chris Gayle, who hit 105 sixes in 58 T20Is. This was Sharma's 96th. Shortly after he passed the record, he brought up his 17th fifty in just 40 balls.

Sharma, an ARCS Andheri pick in the inaugural season of T20 Mumbai, then heaved one off Carlos Brathwaite at the start of the 13th over to further cement his place in the record books.

He eventually fell for a 51-ball 67, with 6 fours and 3 maximums, emerging as the highest scorer of the innings for India in the second straight match, which India went on to win by 22 runs (D/L method).

His innings featured a 67-run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan for the opening wicket and a 48-run stand with captain Virat Kohli for the second wicket, which laid the foundation for India's score of 167/5.

Along with the most sixes, Sharma also holds the record for most runs and most hundreds in T20I cricket.
