Siddhesh Lad picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket after he demolished Mizoram in Mumbai's opening Group D match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Electing to bowl first turned out to be the right decision for the home side. The visitors made a steady start to their innings, losing their first wicket in the ninth over with the score at just 38.

But from there, Mizoram collapsed. Lad was introduced in the 11th over and grabbed the second wicket sending back the other opener, Lalhmangaiha, with just his second ball. Two deliveries later, he dismissed Lalhruaizela to reduce the opposition to 48/3.

Saidingliana Sailo was his next victim, grabbed in the 14th over, as Lad picked up a third successive wicket.

When he trapped captain KB Pawan leg before in the 16th over, Mizoram were struggling at 61/6. In his subsequent over, he got Lalhruai Ralte out to grab his fifth wicket.

Lad, captain of Shivaji Park Lions in T20 Mumbai, ended with figures of 5/13 in his quota of four overs, which included a maiden. It was his first fifer in any form of cricket.

Mizoram were bundled out for a paltry 77 as a result, which Mumbai chased down in 8.1 overs with Jay Bista leading the charge with an unbeaten 24-ball 54 (5x4s, 3x6s).

Bista brought up his fifty and the winning runs with a pull shot that sent pacer Taruwar Kohli's delivery for a six over mid-wicket and into the seats.

Mumbai will play Haryana next on Saturday at the Wankhede.
