Suryakumar Yadav’s blitz in the DY Patil T20 Cup continues

Opener Aakarshit Gomel also scored a century as BPCL piled up a massive 260/4.

Suryakumar Yadav hammered his second straight century in the DY Patil T20 Cup on Saturday for BPCL and this time he was joined by teammate Aakarshit Gomel, who brought up a ton of his own.

Captain of BPCL, Suryakumar Yadav hit 143* in just 63 balls, with the help of 7 fours and 14 sixes, at an astonishing strike rate of 226.98. His boundaries alone accounted for 112 runs, constituting 78 percent of his score against the DY Patil B team.

Opener Aakarshit Gomel’s innings, which started with a boundary, was relatively sedate; his 101 taking 49 balls at a strike rate of 206.12, laced with 9 fours and 6 sixes.

Electing to bat first at the DY Patil Talegaon, BPCL lost a wicket early in the third over thus uniting captain Suryakumar Yadav with opener Aakarshit Gomel.

The duo put on 214 runs for the second wicket in just 96 balls, taking the match out of reach for the opposition. Aakarshit Gomel, an Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs batsman in T20 Mumbai, raised his fifty in 26 balls with a boundary fell in the 19th over as he upped his scoring rate. He smashed 24 in the last 7 balls he faced before he was dismissed.

Suryakumar Yadav’s blitz, however, took it to another level. He hit Pravin Tambe for four successive sixes in the 16th over and hammered 66 runs in the last 18 deliveries he faced.

A title-winning captain in T20 Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav played at a run rate of 22 in that period and a strike rate of 366.66.

As many as 94 runs were hammered in the last five overs.

BPCL ended the innings at a mammoth 260/4 in their 20 overs while the DY Patil ‘B’ team succumbed to 160, led by Shivam Malhotra’s 3/27, handing the former a 100-run victory.

With 414 runs in three matches, Suryakumar Yadav continues to be the top run-getter in the DY Patil T20 Cup, ahead of Aakarshit Gomel, 177 ahead behind his skipper.
