Following the conclusion of the league stages, the stage is set for four teams to battle it for the crown of T20 Mumbai Season 2 champions. However, it was the end of the road for four other teams which also meant that some of the league’s top performers this season won’t feature over the final three days of the campaign.

We take a look at the best among the lot who won’t feature in the knockout phase of Season 2:

• Aditya Tare

Playing in his maiden T20 Mumbai campaign after missing out last season through injury, Eagle Thane Strikers captain Aditya Tare finished as the league’s top run-getter and was a beacon of consistency throughout the campaign.

Tare played brilliant knock of 71 off 44 balls on his debut and followed it up with another 50 against the Aakash Tigers in a victory for his team. He finished Season 2 with 244 runs in five matches with three fifties, the most by any player in Season 2. While he missed out on the semis, Tare and the Strikers capped off the season in grand fashion as they chased down 148 in just 11.2 overs against the Bandra Blasters, with the skipper scoring a magnificent 50, which had given them a chance to qualify for the semis.

• Suyrakumar Yadav

Triumph Knight Mumbai North East skipper Suryakumar Yadav led his team with the bat yet again, finishing the league stages as one of only two batsmen with ever 200 runs this season. Surya began this season exactly how he finished the previous one, scoring a magnificent unbeaten 90 to bat his team out of trouble.

In a highly crucial fixture against the Shivaji Park Lions, Surya yet again showcased his class, anchoring his team’s chase on a difficult batting surface and finishing with a match-high of 56 runs to his name. While his team won’t get a chance to defend their title, Surya can definitely look back at this season as a successful one for him on a personal level.

• Sujit Nayak

Being one of only two players to command the maximum bid in the auction can certainly be daunting for some, but not for all-rounder Sujit Nayak who showed just why the team were willing to pay the big bucks for his services.

Batting lower down the order than he’s accustomed to, Sujit Nayak took up the finisher’s role and played it to perfection in Season 2. He kicked off his campaign in prime fashion with a 20-ball-50, the second fastest this season, and later showcased his outstanding bowling ability, picking up two wickets and giving away just 19 in his spell of his three over on the night. He got his second 50 of the competition in a thriller against the Shivaji Park Lions where the Blasters emerged victorious by just two runs. Nayak finished Season 2 as his team’s highest runscorer and the second highest wicket-taker in what was a stunning individual season for the 29-year-old.

• Royston Dias

Pacer Royston Dias garnered a lot of attention during the Season 2 auction and his performances over the campaign showed just why the speedster was so highly touted by a majority of the teams.

Dias picked up more scalps than any other bowler in the league stages of Season 2 and was terrific for his team with the new ball and as well at the death. His best performance of the season came against the Shivaji Park Lions in a crunch fixture, finishing with figures of 4-26, the best of his T20 career. Dias was also magnificent against Group B toppers SoBo Supersonics, where he picked three prized wickets while giving away just 26 runs. Barring the Triumph Knights opening fixture, Dias picked up a wicket in each of subsequent four appearances and was a menace with the ball whenever called upon by his captain.
