Tushar Deshpande's maiden fifer demolishes Bihar

Mumbai have now booked a place in the semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Seamer Tushar Deshpande's maiden domestic One Day fifer blew Bihar away in the quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru to lead Mumbai to a comfortable nine-wicket victory.

Put in to bat, Deshpande struck in just his third ball sending back Vikash Ranjan caught behind with a ball that lifted appreciably. The medium pacer then accounted for the other opener, Vijay Bharti, in the sixth over and bowled Babul Kumar in the tenth.

When captain Keshav Kumar was adjudged leg before in the 12th over, Bihar were 34/4 with all four wickets courtesy of Deshpande, who had picked up 4/16 in six overs.

Shams Mulani then joined in the wicket-taking spree. The Shivaji Park Lions slow left-arm bowled Rohit Raj and then scalped Kundan Sharma to reduce Bihar to 55/7. Highest scorer MD Rahmatullah was run out next.

Deshpande then came back and picked up his first List A five-wicket haul, when he got Samar Quadri, in just his sixth match. Bihar were soon bundled out for a paltry 69 with Deshpande ending up with 5/23 and Mulani 3/18.

Mumbai chased the score down in 12.3 overs, with Rohit Sharma top scoring with an unbeaten 33 sealing the match with a pull for a four, to book a place in the semi-final.

"The only time Mumbai faced any sort of trouble was before the start of the 11th over, when a fan jumped the fence and ran to the middle to hug Rohit and touch his feet, causing a hold-up in play," reported ESPN Cricinfo.
