Suryakumar Yadav ton weighs Himachal down

Mumbai race to their fifth successive win in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav smashed an unbeaten century against Himachal Pradesh to guide Mumbai to their fifth straight victory in the Elite, Group A Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Bengaluru on Sunday after forging partnerships with Shivaji Park Lions duo Shivam Dubey and Shams Mulani.

Set a target of 270 to win, Mumbai didn't make the best of starts after they found themselves at a delicate 89/3. But Yadav, who led Triumphs Knight Mumbai North East to the title in the maiden T20 Mumbai season, forged a counterattacking 46-ball 71-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Dubey that got Mumbai back in the game.

Dubey, Shivaji Park Lions' star in T20 Mumbai, hit a 32-ball 35 with two 4s and 6s before he was dismissed. Earlier, the all-rounder took 2/41 in his 10 overs and was the pick of the bowlers when Mumbai took the field.

Yadav then teamed up with Mulani, another Lions player, carving a 94-ball 110-run partnership that took Mumbai over the line with 33 balls and 6 wickets to spare. Mulani, who too kept it tight with the ball with figures of 1/33 in his 10, remained unbeaten on 41 off 42 balls, also with two 6s and 4s.

But with 16 fours and three maximums, it was Yadav who stood out as he faced just 103 balls for his 123 not out. It was only his second ton in domestic One Day cricket from 70 List A matches.

Mumbai play Goa next on Tuesday.
