Suryakumar Yadav helps Mumbai trump Punjab

A century stand and Dhawal Kulkarni's strikes hand Mumbai their second straight win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

In a low-scoring match, Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat to pillar Mumbai's innings and laid the foundation for a 35-run victory against Punjab in their Group C match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore on Friday.

Put in to bat first, Mumbai found themselves at 8/2 in the second over before Yadav teamed up with Shreyas Iyer, coming off a blazing ton in the last match, to forge a 126-run partnership. The early wickets didn't affect the duo as they put on the runs in little time, taking just 81 balls, before Iyer departed for 46 off 40 deliveries.

From 134/2 in the 15th over, Mumbai couldn't add much as they collapsed to 155 all out on the final ball. Yadav, captain of champions Triumph Knights Mumbai North East team in the maiden T20 Mumbai league, top scored with 80 off 49 balls, helped with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

The score proved to be enough as Dhawal Kulkarni's early inroads ensured Punjab folded for 120, handing Mumbai a second straight win in the tournament. Kulkarni ended with figures of 4/22 in his quota of four overs with Shubham Ranjane picking up another two wickets.
