Jaiswal stamps his authority in Youth Asia Cup

The Mumbai teenager earned his second straight Man of Match award.

Yashasvi Jaiswal missed what would have been his third straight Youth One Day International century after he fell eight short against Afghanistan Under-19s in the Group A, Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup match at Savar on Tuesday but his knock guided his team to a resolute victory.

Opening for India Under-19s, the southpaw remained calm despite early wickets, the first to fall in just the second ball of the match. His side was 14/3 before he got the innings stabilised with 62-run partnership in just 63 balls with wicketkeeper Simran Singh.

A star for North Mumbai Panthers in T20 Mumbai, Jaiswal's innings was typically measured. He scored just 2 runs off the first 14 deliveries he faced before cracking fast bowler Abdul Rahman for three fours in the sixth over.

He had started his counter attack, scoring 33 runs from just 16 balls from the sixth to the 10th over at a strike rate of 206.50, only then to hold it back a bit around when Singh departed.

Bringing his fifty up in just 46 balls, Jaiswal sliced to the boundaries at steady intervals after he found an able partner at the other end in Ayush Badoni. The duo put on 90 runs for the fifth wicket before Jaiswal fell to Abid Mohammadi. He scored a responsible 92 runs off just 93 balls, aided by 13 fours and a six.

India folded their innings for 221 in the 46th over but the score proved too much for Nepal as they got bundled up for 170, handing India a 51-run victory.

For his efforts, Jaiswal was named the Man of the Match in his second straight outing.

In his last three Youth ODI matches, the teenager has scored 310 runs at an average of 155, with two centuries and one fifty incuding one against Nepal Under-19s in his last outing.
