Jaiswal headlines for India U19 with another century

The Mumbai teenager crafted a ton against Nepal in the Youth Asia Cup.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a calculated century against Nepal Under-19s that laid the foundation for a massive 171-run victory for India Under-19s in their Group A opening Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup match at Savar on Saturday.

Named as the player of the match, Jaiswal opened the innings for his side and anchored his end with a steady start. The teenager's stroke play was measured as he scored just five runs from his first 17 balls and then accelerated to score 26 in the next 12, with three 4s and two 6s.

The all-rounder, who played for North Mumbai Panthers in the inaugural T20 Mumbai season, then kept it steady, with his fifty coming up in 54 deliveries. The southpaw put on 83 for the first wicket with Devdutt Padikkal and after he was dismissed, Jaiswal speeded up piling on 26 runs in the next 15 balls helped by three maximums, to make sure India kept the momentum.

But as India lost their second wicket, Jaiswal dropped anchor again as Simran Singh walked in and started scoring at a brisk pace from the get go.

Jaiswal joined in the scoring soon, eventually bringing up his 100 with a four in just 105 balls.

He fell to pacer Rashid Khan for 104 off 113 balls, which had eight 4s and five big ones. This was his second U19 century after his unbeaten 114 against Sri Lanka U19 in Moratuwa last month.

Off his ton, India went on to register 304/9 while Nepal succumbed to a paltry 133 in the chase.

India will play UAE next on Sunday.
